Meet Shelby!

Shelby was adopted when she was only 5-months old 7 years ago. Shortly before Shelby was adopted, the owner took in another female dog around the same age. Over the course of the 7 years, Shelby had a tendency to intimidate and exert her dominance over the other dog who later was diagnosed with diabetes requiring extra attention away from Shelby. Although there was no injury or needed to visit the vet as a result of Shelby’s loud aggressive typer manner toward the other dog but it was becoming too overwhelming for the owner to keep Shelby.

Shelby does not like anyone initiating physical contact with her, she appreciates the respect of her personal space. But in the early morning when she is out of her sleeping crate, she likes to jump on to the bed to invite the foster mom and dad to give her scratches on her face and give kisses in return for a very brief period of time. Shelby is terrified of fireworks, another instance of when Shelby asks for physical touch is when she is frightened by fireworks or loud booms she will dash into the arms of any family member for comfort and to be petted as she gets extremely anxious.

Shelby is a smart but stubborn girl who just wants to give love in her unique way and to be loved. She absolutely enjoys her daily walks around the neighborhood and chases squirrels in the backyard. She spends the rest of her day by sleeping in her bed next to her foster human family and occasionally she barks at the delivery guy and strange noises outside thinking that she is doing her job to protect the family. She tends to get jealous of other pets for shared attention, we do think the best family for her would be single pet and calmer household.

Shelby is currently being fostered in San Jose, she is available for meet and greet.
